SEO for Electricians

Electrician working on electrical wiring in Shropshire

When someone needs an electrician, being visible at the right moment can make the difference between getting the enquiry and never being considered.

But not every electrical job is searched for in the same way.

Someone with a fault at home may want help quickly. Someone planning a rewire, EV charger or larger electrical project may spend considerably longer researching their options.

I’m Laurren, an independent SEO and marketing consultant based in Shropshire. I help electricians and electrical contractors improve how they’re found through Google and turn that visibility into more of the enquiries they want.

That starts with understanding the business: the work you want more of, the areas you want to cover, what a good job is worth and how customers currently find you.

Then we can work out where SEO could make the biggest difference.

Different Jobs Can Mean Different Searches

Someone looking for an electrician because the power has gone off is in a very different position from someone planning a rewire, EV charger installation or electrical work as part of a renovation.

One may want to find someone nearby and make a phone call quickly.

The other may spend time researching the work, comparing electricians, looking at reviews and trying to understand what the job involves before getting in touch.

Your search presence needs to reflect the type of work you want to win.

That might mean strengthening your Google Business Profile and local visibility, improving individual service pages or creating useful information around the jobs customers tend to research before making an enquiry.

The starting point is understanding which customers and jobs matter most to your business.

Finding Out Where You’re Being Found Now

If you’re not sure why competitors are appearing above you or why your website isn’t generating more enquiries, the first job is to understand what’s happening now.

I’ll look at your search visibility in the context of the services and areas you actually want to grow.

That can include:

  • Google Business Profile – how your business is appearing in local search and whether the profile gives potential customers the information they need
  • Service visibility – whether you’re being found for the types of electrical work you want more of
  • Website content – whether your important services are explained clearly enough for customers and search engines to understand
  • Local visibility – how you’re performing across the areas you want to work in and whether your website supports that
  • Technical SEO – whether there are problems affecting how your site can be crawled, indexed or used
  • Competitors – who’s appearing for the searches that matter to you and what we can learn from what’s working

I’ll then explain what I’d prioritise rather than leaving you with a long list of SEO issues to work through.

Ongoing SEO Support for Electricians

If search is an important source of enquiries for your business, I can stay involved to improve and develop your visibility over time.

What we work on will depend on where the opportunities are.

That could mean improving visibility for particular services, strengthening your local search presence, developing important pages on the website, creating useful content around jobs customers research or addressing technical problems that are holding the site back.

We’ll agree what we’re trying to achieve and use that to decide what deserves attention.

And I’ll want to know what’s happening beyond the SEO data too.

If one type of enquiry regularly turns into valuable work while another wastes your time, that should influence what we’re trying to generate more of.

Giving Customers a Reason to Choose You

Being found is only the first part of winning an enquiry.

Potential customers may also look at your reviews, photos, website, qualifications and the type of work you’ve completed before deciding who to contact.

Your Google Business Profile can be particularly important for local searches, giving people quick access to information about the business alongside reviews and photos.

Your website can build on that by making your services, experience, accreditations and previous work easy to understand.

For electricians registered with schemes or organisations such as NICEIC or NAPIT, those credentials may also be useful trust signals where they’re relevant to the work you provide.

SEO can help someone find you. The rest needs to give them confidence to get in touch.

Where SEO Fits With Google Ads

SEO isn’t the only way an electrician can reach people searching through Google.

Google Ads can also help you appear for searches around particular services or locations, and in some cases there may be a good reason to use paid and organic search together.

But I won’t automatically recommend both.

The right approach depends on the searches available, the competition, what a job is worth to you and how much you’re prepared to invest to generate an enquiry.

Because I work across SEO and Google Ads, I can look at the two together and help you decide where your budget is likely to be better spent.

Working With Me

I deliberately keep my client base small so I have the time to understand the businesses I work with.

You’ll work directly with me throughout, from identifying where the opportunities are to reviewing what’s happening and deciding what we should concentrate on next.

And I won’t judge the success of the work purely by rankings or website traffic.

I’ll want to know whether you’re getting enquiries, what types of jobs they’re for and whether they’re turning into worthwhile work.

Because ultimately, that’s what the SEO needs to contribute to.

SEO for Electricians in Shropshire and Beyond

I’m based near Newport in Shropshire and work with businesses across Telford, Shrewsbury, the wider county and further afield.

For electricians, geography can be particularly important because the area you’re willing to travel often determines which enquiries are useful to you.

That doesn’t necessarily mean trying to rank for every town within driving distance.

We’ll look at where you want to work, which services you’re trying to grow and how customers in those areas are searching, then build the SEO strategy around that.

Thank you for your response. ✨

Is SEO worth it for a local electrician?

It can be if people in the areas you serve are using Google to find the electrical services you provide.
Before recommending how much you should invest, I’d want to look at the search demand, competition, your current visibility and what the types of jobs you’re trying to generate are worth to the business.

How long does SEO take to work?

It depends on where you’re starting, what we’re trying to improve and how competitive the searches are.
Some changes may have an effect relatively quickly, while improving visibility for competitive services or locations can take considerably longer. I’ll set expectations around your website and market rather than giving you a standard timeframe.

Can SEO help me get more of a particular type of electrical work?

Yes. If you want to generate more enquiries for services such as rewires, EV chargers, EICRs, commercial electrical work or another area, we can investigate how people are searching for those services and where there may be opportunities to improve your visibility.
The strategy should reflect the work you want more of rather than treating every enquiry as equally valuable.

Do I need separate pages for every electrical service and town?

Not automatically.
Dedicated pages can be useful where there’s enough distinct information and search demand to justify them, but creating dozens of near-identical service or location pages isn’t a strategy I’d recommend.
We’ll work out which pages would genuinely be useful to customers and support the searches you want to appear for.

What’s included in the free Seed Session?

It’s a free 30-minute conversation about your business, the work you’re trying to generate and what’s happening with your marketing now.
I’ll take a look at your current search presence beforehand where possible, so we have something useful to start the conversation with.
