Useful content starts with understanding what your customers need to know.
You don’t need another blog post because someone told you that you should be blogging.
You need content that has a job to do.
That might mean helping someone find you through search, answering a question that’s stopping them from enquiring, explaining something complicated or giving a potential customer the confidence to choose you.
I’m Laurren, an independent marketing consultant. I look at what your customers are trying to find out, where the gaps are in your existing marketing and what content could make a meaningful difference to your business.
Sometimes that’s new content. Sometimes it’s making better use of what you already have.
What Makes Content Worth Creating?
There’s already a lot of content on the internet. I don’t believe in adding to it simply because a content calendar says it’s time to publish something.
Before creating anything, I want to understand:
- What are your customers searching for and asking about?
- What do they need to understand before they buy?
- Where are they getting stuck?
- What expertise does your business have that isn’t being communicated?
- What does the business actually need the content to achieve?
Those answers help us work out what deserves creating in the first place.ions determine what content is worth creating in the first place.
Content Strategy, Not Just Blog Writing
Content marketing doesn’t automatically mean blogging.
For one business, the opportunity might be building a useful library of search-led articles. For another, it might be improving the service pages potential customers read before getting in touch.
A product business might need buying guides or comparisons. A specialist business might have a wealth of knowledge internally that isn’t being communicated online.
And sometimes the answer isn’t more content at all. It’s making what you already have work harder.
That’s why I start with what the business needs, rather than a predetermined number of blog posts.
Content That Supports the Rest of Your Marketing
SEO
Useful content can help your website appear for the questions and searches your customers use.
The aim isn’t traffic for traffic’s sake – it’s attracting the right people and giving them useful information when they find you.
Google Ads
The page behind an advert matters just as much as the advert itself.
Useful landing page content answers the questions someone has after clicking and gives them a reason to take the next step.
AI Search
Clear, useful content helps search engines and AI systems understand your expertise, products and services.
Making your knowledge easier to find and understand can also give these systems more useful information to draw from.
Your Sales Process
Questions you answer on calls and emails can become some of your most useful website content.
Answering them online helps customers understand what you offer and allows sales conversations to start further along.
What I Can Help You Create
The content itself will depend on your business and what we’re trying to achieve.
That could include:
Customer-led website content
Your core pages need to explain what you do clearly and answer the questions that matter to potential customers.
Sometimes the biggest content opportunity isn’t a blog. It’s a page your website is currently missing.
Search-led articles and guides
Longer-form content can be useful when there are genuine questions around your products, services or industry that your customers are searching for.
The focus is on answering those questions well, rather than producing articles simply to hit a keyword target.
Buying guides and comparisons
Particularly useful for businesses selling products or services where customers need to understand their options before making a decision.
Educational content
If what you sell is complicated, specialist or unfamiliar, good content can make it easier for someone to understand what you offer and why it matters to them.
Existing content optimisation
You may already have good content that isn’t performing as well as it could.
Rather than continually adding more, sometimes it’s better to improve what you already have.
Content planning
If you know you need to communicate more but don’t know what to say, I can help you build a practical content plan based around your customers, your business and your wider marketing strategy.
Some of Your Best Content Is Probably Already in Your Business
I’ve spent years creating content for very different industries, and some of the best ideas rarely start with a keyword tool.
They come from conversations with the people inside the business. The questions customers keep asking. The things the sales team explains every day. The detail everyone internally assumes is obvious, but customers don’t understand at all.
Search data can tell us what people are looking for. The people inside your business can tell us what’s worth saying about it.
Good content strategy needs both.
What About AI-Generated Content?
AI can be incredibly useful in the content process. I use it myself for research, brainstorming and other parts of my work.
What I don’t believe in is publishing hundreds of generic articles simply because a tool has identified hundreds of keywords.
The important question isn’t:
“Can we produce more content?”
It’s:
“Would our customers find this useful?”
If the answer is no, I don’t think it belongs on your website.
Do You Need a Content Strategy?
It might be worth looking at if:
- You’re creating content but aren’t seeing much from it.
- You have plenty of expertise but aren’t sure what your customers want to hear about.
- Your website gets traffic but doesn’t turn enough of it into enquiries.
- You want to improve your search visibility but don’t know which content is worth creating.
- You have existing pages or articles that could be doing more.
- You’re considering using AI to create content but aren’t sure what should actually be produced.
You don’t necessarily need a monthly content retainer.
You might need a strategy, a clearer plan, a handful of important pages or simply a better understanding of what you already have.
We’ll work that out first.
